Nominees must meet the eligibility criteria specified for the award for which they are nominated. We encourage you to nominate an eligible candidate by submitting a letter of nomination summarizing the nominee’s outstanding qualities along with the required supporting evidence provided by the nominee.  Faculty may also nominate themselves.  The letter of nomination and supporting evidence detailed below are to be sent electronically via email to Senate@humboldt.edu by January 17, 2023.  If you need assistance submitting your nomination, please call the University Senate office at x 3657 or GH 101. 
 

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING – LECTURER to be conferred on a yearly basis And/Or

GUIDELINES & SUGGESTIONS FOR NOMINATION MATERIALS 

NOMINATION LETTERS

Across all award categories, nominees are allowed a single nomination letter.  Nominators are encouraged to co-author that letter with colleagues.  In the past the committee has bestowed more weight on letters signed by an entire department.  Nomination letters submitted should clearly address the criteria for the particular award category. The letters should also indicate if release time was awarded for part or all of the work recognized.  Strong letters will also identify how the nominee has demonstrated their impact on students.   Recognizing that members of the Faculty Awards Committee may not be conversant with the nominee’s field, letters that speak to scholarship should provide some contextualization.
 

CURRICULUM VITAE

Information within all categories on the CV should be organized in reverse chronological order. In scholarly and creative works subcategories, indicate if publications and presentations were peer reviewed.  Student co-authorship or other involvement should also be clearly indicated.
 

STATEMENTS:  Teaching, Service,  and Scholarship & Creative Activities

The nominee statement provides the opportunity for the faculty nominee to narrate their contributions and provide the committee with a holistic understanding of the connections across their work.  The Statement of Teaching should include a discussion on philosophy of teaching, methods and pedagogical innovations.  Examples of class activities and assignments that demonstrate the above should be included. Statements benefit from reflection on how the nominee’s teaching has developed.  This statement should also identify teaching issues raised in student evaluations and how they have been addressed.  Nominees for Outstanding Professor should ideally show linkages across all areas.

LETTERS OF SUPPORT

Letters of support may be co-authored and are most effective if they are evaluative.  When appropriate, they should provide a sense of the nominee’s impact at the regional, national, and/or international level, as well as their impact in general on the community or profession.
