I had the opportunity to join several colleagues at the WASC ARC 2024 Conference in San Diego at the end of last week into the weekend as we continued to prepare for our reaccreditation visit. Model UN Team Recognition

The Cal Poly Humboldt Model United Nations team returned from competing at the National Model United Nations conference in New York, where they were recognized as a Distinguished Delegation for outstanding conference performance. More than 2,000 students completed from nearly 120 colleges and universities from around the world, and earning the award meant that Humboldt placed in the top 20% of schools at the conference. Shout out to Noah Zerbe for his leadership. Well done!

During the National Model United Nations conference, each school is assigned a country to represent as they negotiate and develop solutions to contemporary global issues from their country's perspective. This year, Humboldt represented Guinea-Bissau. Students in Model United Nations will compete at their final conference of the year--Model United Nations of the Far West--next week, where they will be representing Algeria, Ethiopia, and Malta. 

Place-Based Learning Communities (PBLC) Program Director Candidate - Campus Community Open Forum

You are invited to participate in an open forum with Kat Goldenberg, candidate for the Place-Based Learning Communities (PBLC) Program Director position on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 from 10:00-10:45 am in BSS 166. The candidate has been asked to prepare a 15-20 presentation describing their vision for how Cal Poly Humboldt's PBLCs will welcome and empower students, including their understanding of the challenges that we face in creating a safe and equitable sense of belonging for our students, the role that PBLCs can play in helping to address these challenges, and their ideas for how to achieve these goals within the context of our polytechnic transition. Teaching Climate Change & Resilience

On Friday, April 25, 2024, at 6:00 pm, Dr. Sarah Ray (Cal Poly Humboldt) and Dr. Jennifer Atkinson (University of Washington Bothell), will discuss their book, The Existential Toolkit for Climate Justice Educators: How to Teach in a Burning World. This event is hosted by Chico State and offers resources focused on solutions that inspire teachers to integrate climate change and resilience into their course materials to advocate for actionable change in our classrooms. The book is a collection of pieces by students, activists, practitioners, and educators on how to center emotions and justice in climate education.
