General Education and All-University Requirements (GEAR) Review

At the recommendation of the GEAR subcommittee of the Integrated Curriculum Committee (ICC), and in light of the requirements of CSU Executive Order 1100, our campus will conduct a review of our General Education and All-University Requirements (GEAR) program this academic year. The goal of this review is to develop a shared understanding of the purpose, vision, values, curriculum, and outcomes of the GEAR program. The program review will be a collaborative effort led by the Office of Undergraduate Studies and the ICC/GEAR committees with input solicited from students, staff, and faculty throughout the academic year. We encourage all members of our campus community to actively participate in this process and contribute their insights so that we may continue striving for the highest standards of education. 

Curriculum Announcements

The Integrated Curriculum Committee (ICC) and Subcommittees are off to a strong start this year with the proposals that were submitted prior to the end of the 2022-23 Academic Year. We are working diligently to review all your hard work. General Education (GEAR) - Please review this memo sent out Friday, September 1, 2023, regarding our Program Review. We have some exciting events coming up, and the first opportunity to participate in this process will be on Thursday, September 14 from 9-11 a.m. on the SAC Quad, for "GEAR, Coffee & Donuts". Earn a treat by answering a brief survey about your experiences with GEAR.  To allow sufficient resources to complete this review, we are requesting a pause on non-urgent new GEAR course proposals. We recognize that there are already some proposals in the pipeline as part of a program change and these will be considered for the 2024-25 catalog. Other proposals may be advanced, as time allows.

Course Changes that do not involve changing program requirements for Fall 2024 are due to be approved by Department Chairs by today. In order to ensure that proposals are complete and follow policies, our Curriculum Analyst will complete an initial review prior to advancing proposals to the Department Chair for review. We have resources available to support this process on the Academic Programs webpage, including in-depth How-Tos for working in Curriculog.
