Well Done

We are happy to share that Cal Poly Humboldt received three campus grants awarded from the Chancellor's Office. These awards were for efforts related to the Graduation Initiative 2025 and each of the 23 campuses applied and received funds. First, $118,000 to support equitable learning practices and reduce DFW rates. An award of $180,000 has been awarded to grow supportive pathways for first-year students and improve completion of GE areas English Writing and Quantitative Reasoning during the first year of college as an effort to reimagine early start. Finally, we have received $175,000 to support students' progress to graduation for summer credit opportunities. These funding opportunities will support faculty and staff in the form of professional development opportunities, curricular revision support, and support students towards graduation.

International Education Week (IEW) February 6-10, 2023

Join your students and campus colleagues for International Education Week starting on Monday, February 6 through Friday, February 10, 2023. There are 37 events scheduled, including featured speakers, a keynote speaker, faculty research presentations, info sessions on study abroad, the Peace Corps, and the State Department, and fun evening events like Diaspora Day, International Film Night, and Global Dance night! Our theme this year is Global Futures: Envisioning a Sustainable, Equitable, and Transcultural Tomorrow. 

The Opening Ceremony is on Monday, February 6 at noon on the SAC Quad. Keynote speaker Dr. Lonny Brooks' talk, "Leveraging our Ancestral Intelligence with Afrofuturism: Searching for our undiscovered stories with the Megascope" is on Tuesday, February 7 from 5-7 pm in the Great Hall and includes refreshments! Daytime events are in the Library Fishbowl (LIB 209) and evening events are in Goodwin Forum. The full schedule of IEW events is available here.

Faculty Advisor Training

ACAC is offering faculty advisor training in February and March. Whether you are new faculty, new to advising, or looking to brush up on some best practices or policies, you are invited to attend these workshops. They have created three scaffolded trainings focused on different aspects of advising and are offering two options for each over zoom. The training will be recorded and made available to those who are unable to attend. Additionally, for those of you advising students on academic probation or in any form of academic recovery, they are offering training on supporting those students. Prison Arts Collective Exhibition and Reception at Reese Bullen Gallery

The Prison Arts Collective Exhibition begins with an opening reception on Thursday, February 16 from 4:30 pm -6:00 pm. It features artwork by incarcerated people at Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent, City, CA who will be zooming in for the opening reception and virtual tour of the exhibition. There will also be a brief Q&A with the participating artists, and all are invited to attend. The exhibition will run through Saturday, March 11, 2023. The Reese Bullen Gallery is located in ArtB 101, across from Van Duzer Theatre, and is open Wednesday and Thursday from 12 pm-6 pm, Friday from 11 am-5 pm, and Saturday from 11 am-2 pm.
