Congratulations on the Reconnecting Communities Grant!

Cal Poly Humboldt and the City of Arcata were one of three selected receipts of a “Reconnecting Communities” Grant by Caltrans. The goal of the grant is to begin preliminary work on the “cap” project aimed at building a cap to reconnect the City of Arcata and Cal Poly Humboldt. To read more about it click here. A special thanks to Mike Fisher, AVP of Facilities Management, and Connie Stewart, Executive Director of Initiatives, and our friends at the City of Arcata for collaborating on the grant submission.

Accessibility in the Classroom Workshops

Starting next week on Wednesdays and Thursdays, the Accessibility Fellows and the Campus Disability Resources Center (CDRC) are hosting a series of accessibility workshops sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) for faculty to support student success. The workshops are designed to provide knowledge to support actionable steps in improving our accessibility and fostering a culture of change that recognizes and values disability as a facet of diversity. See the full schedule and register (or just drop in)! Any questions, reach out to ati@humboldt.edu.

Welcome New Employees to Academic Affairs

Please join me in welcoming the following new employees in Academic Affairs:

Amanda Beardsley- McNair Scholars Program Coordinator

Amanda has worked with children and families in poverty for the past 20 years including a role at the Karuk Tribal Head Start program. She has also worked with adults and parents in recovery and has worked in higher education as an educator since 2019. Her experience is a great fit for her new role as the McNair Scholars Program Coordinator here at Cal Poly Humboldt.

Two new additions to our advising team in the Academic Advising Center (ACC):

Brian Bianucci, MA - a long-time coach for our men's soccer team is joining the academic advising team and will be working with Daniel Gallardo to support our athletes through all four years. They both are working hard to build a shared advising model with the faculty departments they serve.

Dr. Elizabeth Keener - is joining our team on the K-16 Collaborate Grant focused on Health Pathways as our new Graduate Workforce Coordinator. Elizabeth will be providing tailored advising to our pre-health pathways students focused on preparing for grad programs in healthcare, mental health, and veterinary care. This new position will be working with students, faculty, and the community to build a robust pre-health advisory team to help students pursue their goals in health-related professions. Elizabeth has a strong background in Kinesiology and has been lecturing for Education.

Have a terrific rest of your week.
