Provost Communication, Wednesday, March 22, 2023

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday. I hope you are having a great week.

Well Done!

Congratulations to Amy Moffat (Office of Institutional Effectiveness) and Mary Gonzalez (Advancement Initiatives) who received some wonderful news last week that their Title V DHSI grant entitled Caminar Juntos (walking together) was funded in the amount of $2,830,088. The aim of the grant is to increase the retention and graduation rates of Latinx, low-income, and other underserved populations as well as support transfer students from College of the Redwoods to Cal Poly Humboldt.

Fall 2023 Textbook Adoption

Next Friday, March 31, 2023, is the deadline for Fall 2023 textbook adoptions. Selecting textbooks by the deadline helps ensure that all students have access to course material at the same time. All print-based and other instructional materials must be accessible to students with disabilities at the same time they are available to any other student (EO 1111 and ATI Memo (March 2021)) in order to provide students with disabilities an equal educational opportunity to learn course subject matter, to participate actively in classroom discussions, and to meet assignment deadlines.

The Student Disability Resource Center and the Accessibility Resource Center need sufficient time to convert materials into the appropriate alternate format to achieve accessibility. Also, see Resolution on Timely Adoption of Textbooks for Students with Disabilities (#16-06/07-FA).

Captioning Assistance Available

Do you have audio or video course-related materials (such as podcasts, pre-recorded lectures, or other video resources on Panopto, Zoom, YouTube, etc.) that you use in your Canvas courses for more than one semester? Automatically-generated captions or transcripts can be inaccurate and need a little cleanup. The Accessibility Resource Center would love to work with you to have those video or audio resources accurately captioned so that all your students can access them. Captioning has been shown to benefit everyone. To get started, contact us at arc@humboldt.edu.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Grants

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Grant Program Award Committee invites Cal Poly Humboldt students, student organizations, staff, and faculty to submit proposals for programs offered on campus to the university community that cultivates awareness and inclusivity of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA). Awards are typically, but not necessarily, awarded as follows:Faculty: up to $5,000; Staff: up to $5,000; Students: up to $1,000. Program expenses typically funded include speaker fees, travel for visiting speakers, event publicity and marketing, and various other expenses associated with individual activities and programs.
