Provost Communication, Wednesday, May 3, 2023

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday. I hope you are having a great week.

Well Done!

As part of a geography course led by Rosemary Sherriff, eleven students attended the annual California Geographic Society (CGS) Conference held at East Los Angeles College. Included in the field experience, Humboldt students and faculty jointly participated in an all-day field trip with another field class from CSU Northridge exploring urban geography in East Los Angeles. At the CGS meeting, Humboldt student presenters won awards in each of the three undergraduate presentation competitions. Keith Staats won first place in the Cartographic Map competition. Jeremy Webb won third place in the undergraduate student research presentation competition. Dulce Vallejo won the social justice presentation award (undergraduate or graduate student level competition). Congratulations!

Great Job!

Cal Poly Humboldt’s Aviation Club led by student leadership created an outstanding community event which was held this past Saturday: Airport Day. Airport Day drew over 1000 attendees. Saturday's community event. Airport Day had over 1000 in attendance. Thank you to student leaders: Benjamin Hung, Casey Vellutato, Harmony Switzer- Tryon, and Ian Simons for their efforts. A special shout out to Jasmin Torres who is the founding president of the Aviation Club. Jasmin was in large part responsible for the current flight simulator in the university library. She graduated last spring and was recently hired by Cal Poly Humboldt.
