Hello and happy Wednesday. I imagine many of you are looking forward to fall break next week. Whether you are working, have time off or somewhere in between, I hope you are able to take advantage of a little bit of a quieter time and enjoy the things that you love with those that you love. I will take my cue and take a break from Provost Communications next week resuming again on Monday, November 27, 2023.

It was wonderful to celebrate our McCrone Promising Scholars yesterday afternoon. A special shout out to graduate student Regina Khoury (Geology), and faculty Dr. Paul Michael Leonardo Atienza (CRGS), Dr. Oscar Vargas (Biological Sciences), and Dr. Rouhollah Aghasaleh (School of Education) for their accomplishments. 

College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Recertifies Learning Center Tutoring Training Program

The Learning Center has been awarded recertification as a Level I certified tutor training program by the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) by successfully completing the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) peer review process. Achieving certification means that the Cal Poly Humboldt Learning Center has met CRLA’s high standards for tutor selection, training, direct service, and evaluation as an integral part of their overall tutoring and writing assistance programs. Since 1999, 379 instructional student assistants have earned tutor certification through the center. 

Teaching Accessibility Opportunity: Please consider applying to the Teach Access Fellowship Program opportunity reflected here.  The pilot of the Fellows Program in 2023 included 12 colleagues from four CSU campuses. The deadline for applying is November 30, 2023, for inclusion in the 2024 cohort. Cal Poly Humboldt’s commitment to improving accessibility makes us an ideal campus to consider participation.
