Provost Communication, Wednesday, November 8, 2023

Hello and happy Wednesday. I hope everyone is having a good week.

Well Done Information Technology Services (ITS)!

  • Wireless Updates: ITS has replaced over 500 older wireless access points, indoors and out. This provides a better WiFi experience in more areas of campus with more consistent connections and improved speeds.

  • Computer Updates: ITS has replaced more than 800 lab computers and made upgrades to 119 smart classrooms.

Reminder from the Center for Community-Based Learning (CCBL)

The Center for Community-Based Learning would like to remind faculty that their staff offers guidance and support for all facets of academic internships and service learning. For programs that currently integrate or are considering integrating community-engaged learning into their course offerings, this fact sheet offers definitions, guidelines, and logistics -- as well as a plug for College Corps, which is a terrific opportunity for students to earn a year-long stipend and educational award in exchange for community service. The window for applications for the next College Corps cohort opens in January, and we encourage faculty to spread the word.

Veterans Events This Week

As we approach Veteran’s Day at the end of the week there are still several activities on campus to participate in, including:

  • Wednesday, November 8, 2023 - Veterans Day Lunch, 11 am-2 pm, Veterans Office/Lower Library Room 3

  • Thursday, November 9, 2023 - Coffee and Community, 12:30-1:30 pm, Veterans Office/Lower Library Room 3 (Veterans for Peace will give a presentation on the history of Veterans Day.)

Show your support to the Veteran’s office by dropping by and thanks to all who have served.

Welcome our new University Senate ASC

Andrea Bright has been hired to serve as the University Senate Administrative Support Coordinator. Her experience in the workforce began at Humboldt with EOP/SSS as an office assistant, peer mentor, and peer advisor. She earned her MBA from Western Governors University and a bachelor’s in Criminology & Justice Studies from Cal Poly Humboldt. Please join us in welcoming Andrea when you have an opportunity.

Get Money for College Event: Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 4-6 pm

Scholars Lab (Lib 3rd floor) The three academic colleges and the Transfer Student Organization are sponsoring an event targeted at transfer students (but ALL students are welcome) in which speakers from Financial Aid, Learning-Aligned Employment Program, College Corps, and National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduate programs will deliver mini-presentations on finding additional sources of funds for school. Thank you and have a good rest of your week.
