Hello everyone and happy Wednesday. I hope you are having a great week and enjoying the beautiful weather. A tardy thank you to all of you who participated in College Colors Day last Wednesday, September 6, 2023. What a fun day reflecting Humboldt's spirit, competitive nature (kickball players I see you :0), and just plain fun. So many people, particularly in the division of administration and finance and the president’s office worked very hard to put together a great day. Special Shout Out to Patrick Malloy 

I wanted to acknowledge Patrick’s work filling in for our vacant ASC position that supports the Senate. He is doing this on top of his usual duties and is doing a terrific job keeping the Senate organized and on track. Thank you, Patrick. 

Professional Development Opportunities

Please take a moment and review carefully the following two professional development opportunities organized by Dr. Kaitlin Reed, Native American Studies faculty and TEK faculty fellow.

1. Fall 2023 Faculty Book Circle: Wednesdays from 11:30 am-1 pm September 27, 2023 - November 1, 2023 via Zoom

This book circle is an opportunity for faculty at Cal Poly Humboldt to remain at the cutting edge of sustainability, social justice, and community environmental research. This semester the book is Settler Cannabis: From Gold Rush to Green Rush in Indigenous Northern California by Dr. Kaitlin Reed. Books will be provided for participants. All disciplines are invited to creatively engage with this challenge. Faculty engagement with this book circle will help Cal Poly Humboldt maintain its leadership within the CSU system as a campus that continues to bridge the social sciences and STEM. Join the book circle for author presentations and generative discussions on how we can all integrate Indigenous knowledges and praxis into our classrooms in ethical and sustainable ways. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If for some reason you must cancel your enrollment, please email Dr. Kaitlin Reed as soon as possible so that we may give your spot to someone else on the waitlist. 2. Decolonizing Sustainability Speaker Series: Thursday, September 14, 2023

This event will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Native American Forum (BSS 162). Dr. Brittani Orona will present whik'ixoniwhe' (my awareness of things): "Dam Speculation" and Native Resistance on the Klamath River Basin. Dr. Brittani Orona is currently a UC President's Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Santa Cruz. Her research and teaching focus on Indigenous history and human rights, environmental studies, public humanities, and visual sovereignty. Mid-Semester Feedback program

All faculty are invited to participate in the Mid-Semester Feedback (MSF) Program, a non-evaluative opportunity to hear from your students and inform your teaching and their learning success. Graduate student facilitators will meet you where you are - in person, via Zoom, and/or an asynchronous option to offer the most flexibility. To request an MSF for your course, please complete this short form Request a Mid-Semester Feedback Survey - one form for each course you'd like to survey.
