I wanted to take a moment to thank Jim Ritter (Education At Work Community Outreach, HCOE) for partnering with our faculty and staff in hosting and supporting a Hoopa Valley High School field trip to Cal Poly Humboldt yesterday. Forty-one students ended up making the trip and observing our classes. And in Jim’s words, “It was a great success!” A special shout-out to Kaitlin Reed, Aaron Gregory, Dominic Corva, Jeff Kane, Maral Attallah, Sashsheen Raymond, and Lonyx Landry. 

Fall Commencement Update

Thanks to everyone who has signed up to work and/or participate in commencement this fall. Due to the number of graduates who have expressed interest in participating in commencement and in an effort to accommodate as many family and guests as our graduates would like, we will be splitting Commencement into two ceremonies this Fall. The times for the commencement ceremonies are tentatively scheduled for:

• CAHSS and CPS at 1 pm

• CNRS at 4 pm 

An all-college celebration is being planned in between the two commencement ceremonies and more details on this celebration will be coming soon. If you still have not signed up to work commencement and are able to, the deadline to sign up is Friday, November 18, 2022. Please submit your interest and availability here.

Gratitude

As we enter the holiday season (and there are many opportunities to celebrate) we often try to offer gratitude to each other and give thanks. Some of us may take some time to get together with family and friends, eat celebratory food, volunteer, and take some time to reflect, rest, and connect with nature. Despite my best efforts to try and offer gratitude throughout the year to as many of you as I can I believe that you just don’t hear it enough. So thanks to each of you. Thank you for your unique contributions to Cal Poly Humboldt. Thank you for asking hard questions and providing our students with a world-class education. Thank you for taking risks and innovating. Thank you for doing at times unseen and underappreciated work. Thank you for being deeply committed to our students and the success of our campus. You are appreciated and you make a difference.
